Meet our Senior Development Manager

Helping bring Beulah’s projects to life is our highly experienced and dedicated Senior Development Manager, Chris Hatcher. With a flair for problem-solving and a natural ability to build positive and long-standing relationships, he has a deep understanding of the full development cycle – from planning and sales to finance, delivery and completion.

Chris’ extensive experience in town planning ensures that he expertly navigates the complexities of project development to successfully deliver outcomes that enrich lives on a civic scale. His innate passion for creating spaces that leave a positive stamp on the fabric of our cities started at a young age. His keen interest in how cities, architecture, transport and design come together, led him to complete a Bachelor in Urban Planning and Development, and eventually playing a pivotal role within the Beulah team.

Away from the office, Chris can be found keeping fit at the gym or enjoying long walks along the beach with his favourite four-legged-friend, Toby. He enjoys beachside travel, where he spends his time reading and keeping up-to-date with the latest podcasts.

Take us through a day in your life at Beulah…

As a Senior Development Manager, my role traverses the entire project life cycle from land acquisition through to approvals, sales and marketing, construction and settlements and handover to Beulah residents.

The great thing about any day at Beulah is that it is diverse. The morning might be spent establishing a vision and brief for a new project, the middle of the day could be a walk-through of a project under construction, and the end of the day might be meeting with future Beulah residents as they settle on their new home.

Can you share some key highlights of your day?

Every day at Beulah involves lots of collaboration with our incredible team and external partners, which we know always results in the best outcome. Communicating across various disciplines, learning and problem-solving is a key highlight.

What motivates you at Beulah?

Pushing boundaries, always striving to achieve more and do what has never been done before. Asking questions like “How can we do this?” instead of focusing on the reasons why we can’t do something. This results in a culture at Beulah that always looks at how things can be done differently, efficiently, better, smarter and just different. It motivates me every day.

We love your out-of-the-box thinking, innovative and creative ideas! What inspires you?

Living in a city where boundaries are pushed inspires me. I admire investment in public assets /the public realm and infrastructure that sets the tone for how other parts of the city develop. Melbourne does this very well. Smart investment in the arts, our public space and train stations that are design-led and people-focused creates a strong precedent for the development of private land.

To quote architect and urban designer Jan Gehl “First life, then spaces, then buildings – the other way around never works”.

How do you stay inspired?

I am fortunate enough to work in an industry that I love. Cities, architecture and design are my passions. I stay inspired by watching in awe what is being achieved around me. Researching, observing others, asking questions, visiting places that inspire me in Melbourne, Australia and internationally.
