Beulah acquires neighbouring site
To create rare 'island site'
Progressing towards the vision of creating an architectural icon in the heart of Southbank, Beulah has acquired the neighbouring site to our Southbank by Beulah project, home to the iconic Hanover House.
The strategic corner location at 158 City Road will allow Beulah to increase the footprint of our proposed Southbank by Beulah development to a total of 7,706sqm, ultimately creating a rare island site that would have four street frontages, activating Power Street, City Road, Southbank Boulevard, Waterfall Lane and a new Melbourne laneway.
The world-class design team of Cox Architecture in Melbourne and UNStudio in Amsterdam are currently in the process of preparing a submission to council to extend the lifestyle retail podium.
Some of these changes include creating more space between the two towers – over 45m – to create more room and comfort for hotel guests, workers and residents alike; increasing the public park on Level 7 to over 2,000sqm; increasing The Community Auditorium to 3,000 seats, as well as increasing the hotel and office outlook, offering superior views across the city and Port Phillip Bay.
In addition, and as a direct response to the future of workspaces post-covid, the commercial offering will increase to 50,000sqm with office floorplates increasing to 2,000sqm as a means of creating larger, more flexible and collaborative workspaces, with every floor offering uninterrupted views towards Port Phillip Bay.
The acquisition provides an exciting opportunity for the team behind Southbank by Beulah, as well as the City of Melbourne, its residents and visitors alike. Acquiring Hanover House will allow Beulah to truly realise the vision for Southbank by Beulah and that is to create a cultural heart for the Southbank area and its surrounds; having a rare island site in this central location will provide Beulah endless opportunities to create a state-of-the-art precinct, unlike anything Melbourne has seen.
Construction on Southbank by Beulah will take approximately 5 years to complete.
