Establishing Melbourne-based design studio and collaborative practice Cordon Salon in 2018, Ella has a particular interest in lost or forgotten processes and crafts; the studio works with skilled or specialised craftspeople, artists and designers to create one-of-a-kind or limited-edition collectable design works.
In 2020 Ella founded New Assemblage, a curatorial project that focuses on developing opportunities within the Australian contemporary collectable design community through a series of exhibitions and creative programs. Saddington is also a curator and producer for OIGÅLL Projects. A gallery and conceptual testing ground for emerging and established artists, designers and craftspeople.
Working across furniture and object design, Ella often focuses on overlooked and ubiquitous processes and materials which, re-imagined, are shown again in a different light.
Ella established design practice Cordon Salon to interrogate traditional thinking around art, craft and design through research, collaboration and play. She is an artisan in residency at BETA By STH BNK. Reflecting BETA and STH BNK’s experimental spirit, Cordon Salon is dedicated to working outside the confines of empirical understanding and current codes. During her Atelier residency, she will explore the role of waste within the design practice by creating new works out of repurposed materials salvaged from within Hanover House.
